# Workflow triggers

> See the events that can start a Risponse workflow, from new chats and messages to ticket and task changes, and learn how to pick the right one.

A trigger is the event that wakes a workflow up. Choose the one that matches the moment you care about.

## Trigger groups

### Chat events

* A new chat or group is created.
* A label is added to or removed from a chat.

### Message events

* A new message arrives.
* A message is edited.
* A message is deleted.
* Someone reacts to a message.
* A message is flagged or unflagged.

### Ticket events

* A new ticket is created.
* A ticket changes, such as its status, priority, or due date.
* A label is added to or removed from a ticket.
* A ticket is closed.

### Task events

* A new task is created.
* A task is assigned to someone.

## Choosing a trigger

| You want to... | Use this trigger |
| - | - |
| Welcome a new contact | New chat created |
| React to a customer's words | New message received |
| Follow up when something is flagged | Message flagged |
| Tell the team when a ticket is done | Ticket closed |
| Start a process when a label is added | Label added |

## Choose which numbers start it

Message triggers can often be limited to certain WhatsApp numbers. This is useful if you run several numbers and want a workflow only for Sales.

> [!NOTE]
>
> By default, a new-message trigger reacts to messages from customers. Messages sent by your own team may need a special setting.

> [!TIP]
>
> Pick the narrowest trigger that works. A "label added" trigger is calmer than "every new message".

> [!WARNING]
>
> If your workflow sends a message, do not trigger it on every new message without a condition. It may reply to its own messages.
