# Best practices

> Simple habits that keep your WhatsApp numbers healthy and lower the risk of limits or bans when you message customers at scale.

WhatsApp decides what happens to your number. It watches how people react to your messages. These habits help you stay on its good side.

> [!WARNING]
>
> No tool can guarantee a number will never be restricted. These tips lower the risk. They do not remove it.

## What WhatsApp likes

* People replying to you.
* Customers saving your number.
* Messages that are read.
* Steady, predictable activity over time.

## What WhatsApp dislikes

* People blocking you or reporting spam.
* Sending to numbers that are not on WhatsApp.
* Sending the same text to everyone.
* One-way blasts with no replies.
* Sudden jumps in volume.

## Habits to follow

> **Warm up new numbers**
>
> Use a new number like a normal person for several days before any bulk work. See [warm up new numbers](https://docs.risponse.com/get-started/warm-up-new-numbers.md).

> **Write first messages that invite a reply**
>
> Say who you are, ask one simple question, and skip links in the first message. Let people opt out easily.

> **Personalise every message**
>
> Use names or other details so messages are not identical. See [send a bulk message](https://docs.risponse.com/bulk-messaging/send-bulk-message.md).

> **Grow volume slowly**
>
> Start small and raise numbers step by step. Spread messages across the day instead of sending them all at once.

> **Message people who expect you**
>
> Contact people who asked to hear from you. Clean your list first and remove numbers that never reply.

> **Prefer invite links for groups**
>
> Sending a group invite link is gentler than adding many people directly. Add people yourself only in small batches.

## If you hit a limit

1. Stop starting new chats.
2. Keep answering people who already wrote to you.
3. Wait until the limit lifts.
4. Find what went wrong, then restart at a lower volume.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Keep one number for outreach and another for your core business. If the outreach number is limited, your main number stays safe.
