# AI credits

> Learn what AI credits are in Risponse, which features use them, how to check your balance, and what to do when you run low.

AI credits pay for Risponse's AI features. Think of them as a balance that goes down each time AI does work for you.

> [!NOTE]
>
> AI credits are separate from any credits used for bulk messages.

## What uses credits

* AI replies to customers
* AI help inside a chat, like drafting or summarising
* Questions you ask about your workspace
* AI steps inside [automations](https://docs.risponse.com/automations/overview.md)
* Training AI from past chats

See [AI summaries and replies](https://docs.risponse.com/ai/summaries-and-replies.md) for the features themselves.

## How credits are used

Credits depend on how much text the AI reads and writes. Long chat histories, large knowledge sources, and long answers cost more than short ones. Repeating the same context within one conversation usually costs less.

## Check your balance

**1. Open credit usage**

Go to the AI section and open credit usage.

**2. Review**

You can see your balance, when it renews, and past usage.

## Get more credits

Your plan may include a monthly allowance that renews on your billing date.

If you need more before then, you can buy a top-up pack from your plan settings.

## When credits run out

AI features pause until you top up or your allowance renews. Everything else keeps working, including chats, tickets, and bulk messages.

> [!TIP]
>
> To save credits, turn AI on only for chats that need it, and keep knowledge sources focused and short.
